Excessively Rare Narrow Shield Variety. PCGS - XF40
Quality:
Good Fine Grade. PCGS - XF40
Description:
Marsh rates this coin R3 and the similar 1843 Narrow Shield as R4. However recent research suggests the 1838 to appear less frequently. In my own experience I have encountered this coin just once as part of the Bentley collection in 2012. Lot 38 and graded extremely fine it sold for a hammer price of £18,000. the buyer would have paid a total of £22,320 including buyers premium and VAT.
